Holmhead is directly on both the Hadrian’s Wall and Pennine Way National Trails, about 200m east of Thirlwall Castle. For those guests walking either trail, there is no need to go into Greenhead to find us.
For cyclists on the C2C Hadrians Wall route (72), we are just off the route, between Greenhead and Longbyre. At the Greenhead side of the arched bridge (over the Tipalt Burn), there is a sign to Holmhead; follow this private track and we are about 300m away. Please do not use the Hadrian’s Wall Path – it is not suitable for cycle access.
For those arriving by car, find Holmhead from the centre of Greenhead village. Opposite the Greenhead Hotel, drive into Station Road (look for the telephone box at the corner). About 100m along Station turn right at our sign and cross the bridge (don’t be tempted to use the ford!). We are about a quarter of a mile along the track. If you have Satnav use post code CA8 7HE to find Station Road, then follow the directions. Do not use our official post code for Satnav – it won’t get you here!
Greenhead is just off the A69 road from Newcastle to Carlisle, about 3 miles west of Haltwhistle.
